Throughout the year, ASTM International is proud to support Riverbend Environmental Education Center and other organizations that provide unique educational experiences for local youth. This month, ASTM sponsored several programs for local elementary school students organized by Riverbend.

Whitehall Elementary
On May 6, ASTM supported a field trip for more than 90 third-grade students from Whitehall Elementary. The students visited Woodmont, a private estate in Gladwyne, where they learned about ecosystems supported by water, watersheds, ponds, and streams. Robert Morgan, a director in ASTM’s Technical Committee Operations Division, looks for macroinvertebrates in the stream with some Whitehall students.

Conshohocken Elementary

On May 13, ASTM Executive Vice President Kathie Morgan visited Riverbend’s after-school nature club for second graders at Conshohocken Elementary. About 20 students learned about what animals need to survive in their habitats. Morgan (center) and Riverbend staff members Kelly Myers and Lauren Ritchey are pictured with nature club students.

Bridgeport Elementary
On May 20, ASTM sponsored a field trip to Riverbend for more than 80 first-grade students from Bridgeport Elementary. The students participated in a pond-and-stream lesson involving exploration and animals. Four of the students took a break from searching for insects in a pond to pose with Julie Sabo, director of ASTM’s Graphic Design, Digital Output and Production Services.
