Scott Osborn, principal engineer for nylon plastics and polymers at Ascend Performance Materials, Cantonment, Florida, has received the ASTM International Award of Merit from Committee D20 on Plastics. The Award of Merit and its accompanying title of fellow is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.
The committee cited Osborn’s dedicated leadership and technical contributions to the development of ASTM plastics standards. As the committee’s vice chairman of membership and secretary of Subcommittee D20.15 on Thermoplastic Materials, Osborn works to maintain balanced committee rosters and voting records, an important factor in the committee’s standards work. A member of ASTM since 1998, he serves on multiple D20 subcommittees. His work has been recognized with an Award of Recognition, an Outstanding Achievement Award and the D20 Award of Excellence.
Osborn has more than 30 years of experience in the plastics industry, providing technical support for product and process development and providing technical support to domestic and international manufacturing and customers. He began his career as a product development engineer at Monsanto Co. in Pensacola, Florida, in 1982 after earning a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and an M.S. in engineering management from the University of South Florida. During his time at Monsanto he was promoted to technical service manager and team leader, tire yarn technology. Osborn joined Solutia Inc. (now Ascend) in 1999.
Outside ASTM International, Osborn is a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers.
