ASTM International Committee B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys has presented the Gary M. Kralik Distinguished Service Award to Abbas Mirza, Ph.D. Mirza is a senior product engineer at RSR Technologies Inc. in Dallas, Texas. 

The committee noted Mirza’s dedicated service and many contributions since he joined ASTM in 2007. He has served as vice chairman of the Subcommittee on Lead, Tin, Antimony and Their Alloys (B02.02) since 2010, and also served multiple terms as B02 membership secretary. He received a B02 Award of Appreciation in 2011.

Mirza held engineering roles at ASARCO Inc., Falconbridge Ltd. and Olin Corp. before joining RSR Technologies in 2006. RSR Technologies is the R&D division of ECOBAT Technologies Ltd., the world’s largest recycler of lead-acid batteries. Mirza provides technical support to RSR customers in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa, and represents the company at conferences and seminars worldwide.

A graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, where he received a B.Tech. in metallurgical engineering, Mirza also holds an M.S. in metallurgical engineering from Montana Tech of the University of Montana, and earned his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society in addition to ASTM.
