Nov 27, 2017

After receiving inquiries from industry and academia, ASTM International announced today that it is extending deadlines by one week for letters-of-intent and full proposals for a new center of excellence in additive manufacturing. Many interested parties throughout the world have asked for more time to respond to the RFP.

“We are receiving a strong and enthusiastic response to our request for proposals,” said Mohsen Seifi, Ph.D., the organization’s director of additive manufacturing programs. “This extension reflects our commitment to listening to and responding to needs from potential proposers as we move through this important process.”

As previously announced, ASTM International is calling for industry-university proposals aimed at creating a global innovation hub that advances additive manufacturing technical standards, related R&D, education and training, and more.

The deadline for submitting a letter of intent has been moved from today (Nov. 27) to Dec. 4, at 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The deadline for full proposals has also been extended by one week, from Dec. 15 to Dec. 22, at 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. (The webinar for letter-of-intent applicants has also been postponed to Dec. 5 at 1 p.m.)

A revised RFP document showing these changes has been uploaded to the preexisting link (here). (The URL remains unchanged.) An updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document is available here.

As a global organization, ASTM International welcomes letters of intent and proposals from stakeholders throughout the world. Applicants can team up to submit a proposal, but the center must be affiliated with a specific physical location.

The center will be supported with up to $250,000 annually for up to five years, provided from funds and in-kind contributions. In-kind support could increase the award amount beyond $250,000.ASTM International could select up to two awardees as part of this initiative.
