ASTM International Committee E01 on Analytical Chemistry for Metals, Ores and Related Materials gave the H. V. Churchill Award to Charles H. Bucknam, manager, analytical development of Newmont Metallurgical Services in Englewood, Colorado. Bucknam, an ASTM International member since 1986, received the honor for meritorious service to the committee. Bucknam lives in Parker, Colorado.

Active on a number of E01 subcommittees, Bucknam also participates in the work of ASTM Committees D19 on Water, D28 on Activated Carbon, and D34 on Waste Disposal. In addition to ASTM International, Bucknam is a member of the Acid Drainage Technology Initiative, the American Chemical Society, the Mining and Metallurgical Society of America, and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration, Inc.

In his career, Bucknam has focused on analytical and environmental services for natural resource recovery industries. Bucknam is responsible for assessing analytical system requirements, sampling, environmental and computer services, and coordinating the efforts of multiple disciplines to solve technical problems. He has professional experience working for Newmont Gold Co., Newmont Exploration Ltd., Magma Copper Company, and Southwest Forest Industries as well as in his current position.

A graduate of California State University, Stanislaus, in Turlock, Calif., with a B.A. in chemistry, Bucknam holds an M.S. in analytical chemistry from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.
