David Styers, director of global business development at Wieland Copper Products LLC, Pine Hall, North Carolina, has received the Award of Merit from ASTM International Committee B05 on Copper and Copper Alloys.

The Award of Merit, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities. The committee noted the outstanding leadership and dedicated service of Styers as a member since 1992.

Styers currently serves as B05 first vice chairman, and he also chairs the subcommittee on Strategic Planning. A member of several B05 subcommittees and task groups, he is an active contributor to the B05 symposia program and a key promoter of the committee and its important standards development work. Styers was honored with the B05 Copper Club Award, presented to an individual who has done the most to advance the standardization of copper and copper alloy products, in 2012.

A graduate of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he received a master’s degree in management and a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, Styers joined Wieland Copper in 2013. Prior to that, he had a 36-year tenure at Wolverine Tube Inc. in Decatur, Alabama, where he held various  roles, such as vice president of technical products, director of technical marketing and director of corporate quality.

Styers is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers in addition to ASTM.
