Horace Pops, D.Sc., a consultant based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, has received the Copper Club Award from ASTM International Committee B05 on Copper and Copper Alloys.
Pops received the special award for his exceptional committee leadership and contributions to the development of ASTM copper standards as a member of B05 since 1974. He is a past B05 chairman and first vice chairman, and has led several task groups through his participation in multiple subcommittees. He actively promotes the work of B05 throughout ASTM, and is the liaison between that committee and B01 on Electrical Conductors and B02 on Nonferrous Metals on Alloys. Pops received the B05 Award of Appreciation in 2009.
A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in metallurgy, Pops holds a master’s in metallurgy from Lehigh University, and received his doctorate in metallurgy from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a senior fellow at the Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, before joining Superior Essex in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1972. Pops retired as director of the metals lab at Superior Essex in 2005 after 33 years of service. Since that time he has worked as a metallurgy consultant through his company Horace Pops Consulting.
Outside ASTM, Pops is a member of the American Society for Metals (ASM International) and Wire Association International.
