ASTM International Committee D30 on Composite Materials has named Adam Sawicki, technical fellow at the Boeing Co., Ridley Park, Pa., as chairman. The committee includes more than 240 technical experts who develop standards for the aerospace industry and civil infrastructure, as well as marine, automotive, industrial, recreational and medical products made with advanced composites.

Sawicki also chairs the D30.90 Executive Subcommittee and has served as recording secretary and vice chairman of D30. The committee has recognized his contributions with a Distinguished Service Award in 2006 and two Awards of Appreciation (2007 and 2009). He also received a Service Award for his term on the ASTM Committee on Standards (COS) in 2008. Sawicki has been a member of ASTM International since 2000.

A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass., where he earned a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in aeronautics and astronautics, Sawicki also holds an M.B.A. from Villanova University, Radnor, Pa. He joined Boeing in 1990 as a mechanical and structural engineer. He became associate technical fellow in 2002 and technical fellow in 2007.  His work focuses on aerospace structural analysis, primarily on rotorcraft and commercial aircraft products.
