Joel L. Sidel, senior consultant with QRS-Tragon, Redwood Shores, California, USA, was honored with the David R. Peryam Award from ASTM International committee on sensory evaluation (E18).
Sidel, who joined ASTM International in 1967, was honored by the committee for outstanding contributions to the field of basic and applied sensory science. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Clark University, and a master’s degree in psychology from Northeastern University.
Sidel has previously served as the co-founder and executive vice president of the Tragon Corporation, the head of the sensory evaluation group at Stanford Research Institute, the Acting Head of the Food Acceptance Laboratory with the US Army Natick Research Laboratories, among others.
In addition to ASTM International, Sidel is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Institute of Food Technology.
