Committee D15 on Engine Coolants has presented Aleksei Gershun,Ph.D., technical fellow at Prestone Products Corp. in Danbury, Conn., with the Award of Merit, ASTM International’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.
A member of ASTM International since 1996, Gershun works on several D15 subcommittees and is vice chairman of Subcommittee D15.06 on Glassware Performance Tests. He has authored or co-authored several engine coolant articles published as ASTM Special Technical Papers (STPs). Committee D15 has recognized his contributions with the Raymond H. Rudisill Award in 2006 and the Daniel H. Green Award in 2008.
Gershun holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Ukranian State University of Chemical Technologies. He has more than 20 years of experience in the research, manufacturing and distribution of coolants, lubricants and lubricant additives for automotive and heavy-duty applications. Before joining Prestone in 1989, Gershun was an assistant professor at the Ukranian State University of Chemical Technologies, the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas A&M University. He became a technical fellow of Honeywell International Consumer Products Group in 2008. Prestone Products Corp. was a subsidiary of Honeywell until August 2011.
Outside ASTM International, Gershun is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Society of Automotive Engineers and ASM International. He holds dozens of patents and is a Certified Six Sigma Green Belt Professional.
