Robert A. Hallman, principal scientist at Armstrong World Industries Inc., Lancaster, Pa., has been elected chairman of ASTM International Committee E33 on Building and Environmental Acoustics. The committee, with a membership of approximately 200, has jurisdiction over 50 international standards that play a key role in determining the characteristics and performance of materials, products, systems and services relating to the acoustical environment.

A member of ASTM International since 1994, Hallman works on several E33 subcommittees. He also serves on ASTM Committee E05 on Fire Standards and the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to the International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee 43, Subcommittee 2 on Building Acoustics. He was honored with an E33 Award of Appreciation in 2007.

Hallman, who holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Millersville University, Millersville, Pa., has been with Armstrong World Industries Inc. since 2005. Armstrong is a global leader in the design and manufacture of floors, ceilings and cabinets. It operates 32 plants in eight countries and has approximately 9,100 employees worldwide.
