ASTM International’s Committee on Air Quality (D22) has presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit - to Andrew Oberta of The Environmental Consultancy in Austin, Texas, U.S.A. This prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contributions to developing standards.
The committee honored Oberta for his outstanding leadership and personal dedication to the development of ASTM standards for building air quality and asbestos management. Oberta has been an ASTM member since 1986, serving on a variety of committees including E06 on Performance of Buildings, E50 on Environmental Assessments, Risk Management, and Corrective Action, and D22 on Air Quality.
Oberta is an asbestos consultant with The Environmental Consultancy, specializing in asbestos control. Oberta established The Environmental Consultancy in 1990, having previously served as the president of ERG Consultants, Inc.
Outside of ASTM, Oberta is a member of the Environmental Information Association, and was honored with their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.He is a member and fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
