Larry D. Brown of CWF Deck Consulting LLC, Newark, Ohio, has received the ASTM International Award of Merit from Committee E06 on Performance of Buildings.
The Award of Merit, which includes the title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities. Brown was honored for his technical expertise in the development of ASTM building standards and his exemplary leadership as a committee officer.
A member of ASTM since 1983, Brown was E06 chairman from 2006 to 2012 and currently serves as membership secretary. He is active on multiple E06 subcommittees and chaired E06.11 on Horizontal and Vertical Structures/Structural Performance of Completed Structures for nearly 15 years. The committee has recognized his work with several Awards of Appreciation and the E. George Stern Award of Excellence. Brown also served a term on the ASTM Standing Committee on Standards, and works on Committees C17 on Fiber-Reinforced Cement Products; D18 on Soil and Rock; E05 on Fires Standards; E33 on Building and Environmental Acoustics; and E60 on Sustainability in addition to E06.
Brown spent the majority of his professional career at Tectum Inc., Newark, Ohio, where his roles included chemist, director of quality assurance and senior technical director. He retired from Tectum, a manufacturer of wood fiber interior and roof deck acoustical products, in 2013 after 34 years of service and now works as a consultant. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics from Ashland College, Ashland, Ohio.
