ASTM International recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Azerbaijan Standardization and Certification Institute (ASSI). The MOU was signed by Dr. Namig Tagiyev, head of Technical Regulation and Standardization Department at ASSI, and James Thomas, president of ASTM International.

Thomas says, “we are pleased to work with ASSI to provide our standards as a current and efficient technical resource to help develop Azerbaijan standards that support health and safety, economic growth, and the further development of science and technology.”

ASSI was founded in 1998 within the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent of the Republic of Azerbaijan. ASSI is guided by the country’s Constitution. ASSI works to ensure the quality and range of products, product conformity, and product competitiveness both nationally and abroad.

ASTM International’s MOU program was launched in 2001 to promote communication between ASTM International and national standards bodies worldwide, fostering awareness of the standardization systems of all parties involved. For more information on ASTM’s 101 MOUs, visit www.astm.org/GLOBAL.
