Michael Brisson, principal technical advisor at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions LLC in Aiken, South Carolina, has received the Harlan J. Anderson Award for his outstanding contributions to ASTM International Committee C26 on Nuclear Fuel Cycle.

An ASTM member since 2005, Brisson chairs the C26 subcommittees on Methods of Test and Quality Assurance, Statistical Applications and Reference Materials. He also chairs Committee D22 on Air Quality and its Quality Control subcommittee, and works on B09 on Metal Powders and Metal Powder Products, E06 on Performance of Buildings and E11 on Quality and Statistics as well.

Brisson has been recognized with other ASTM awards, including the President’s Leadership Award, the D18 Richard S. Ladd Standards Development Award and the Award of Excellence from the ASTM Committee on Publications.

As a leading researcher in the field of beryllium sampling and analysis with more than 35 years of laboratory experience, Brisson specializes in analytical chemistry, and has experience in environmental, worker protection and nuclear analysis methods. He has been with Savannah River Nuclear Solutions since 1988.


Outside ASTM, Brisson is a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and chairs the International for Standardization Organization (ISO) Technical Committee 146, Subcommittee 2 on Workplace Air. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the College of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina, and a master’s degree in hazardous waste management from National Technological University, Fort Collins, Colorado.
