Raul Dominguez Jr., Ph.D., senior air quality chemist at the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) in Diamond Bar, California, has received the ASTM International Award of Merit from Committee D03 on Gaseous Fuels.
The Award of Merit is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities, and includes the accompanying title of fellow. Committee D03 recognized Dominguez for his leadership services as a committee officer and his significant technical contributions to standards that have been key to the mission of the gaseous fuels industry.
An active D03 member since 1997, Dominguez currently serves as the committee chairman. He also chairs the subcommittees on On-Line/At-Line Analysis of Gaseous Fuels and Long-Range Planning, and holds officer roles on the Editorial and Terminology groups. He was honored with the D03 Richard E. Stern Award in 2011. In addition to D03, Dominguez serves as a member at large on the executive subcommittee of Committee D34 on Waste Management, and also works on Committees D22 on Air Quality and G01 on Corrosion of Metals.
A graduate of Stanford University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Dominguez earned his Ph.D. in organometallic chemistry from the University of California, Irvine. He joined SCAQMD as an air quality chemist in 1988 after completing a post-doctoral assignment at the University of Nevada, Reno. His work includes regulatory rule development technical assistance, odor complaint resolution and laboratory quality assurance. Dominguez was promoted to senior air quality chemist in 2007 and also serves as SCAQMD’s chemical hygiene and laboratory safety officer.
In addition to ASTM International, Dominguez is a member of the Air and Waste Management Association, the American Chemical Society, the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists and SAE International.
