John Bringas, president and founder of Codes and Standards Training Institute (CASTI) has received both the Award of Merit from ASTM’s steel, stainless steel, and related alloys committee (A01) and the Frank W. Reinhart Award from its nonferrous metals and alloys committee (B02).
The Award of Merit, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Bringas was recognized for a long career of guiding standards terminology, bridging the work of ASTM’s committees A01, A05, B02, E04, E07, E28, F42, and G01 and facilitating collaboration with AMPP (NACE), of which he is also a member.
The Frank W. Reinhart Award citation honors Bringas’ tenacious, visionary leadership in terminology standardization across ASTM and the metals industry, and the recipient’s lasting impact on the specification and use of metals worldwide.
Bringas’ career focus has been steelmaking, petrochemical, oil and gas, failure analysis, NDE, inspection, and as an instructor of global certification training in API, ASME, AWS, AMPP, ASTM, and other codes and standards. A member of ASTM International since 1982, he has previously been honored by committee B02 with the Award of Appreciation (2011) and the Gary M. Kralik Distinguished Service Award (2017), and by A01 with the Award of Appreciation (2019).
