ASTM International members are announcing and seeking input on new copper-related standards efforts.
A group within the copper and copper alloys committee (B05) is considering adding a new alloy (C11040) to the Standard Specification for Copper Sheet, Strip, Plate and Rolled Bar (B152/152M-13). For more information, contact task group chairman Horace Pops (ftwaynepops@aol.com).
Also, the B05 committee is seeking input on the potential withdrawal of the Standard Specification for Hard-Drawn Copper Alloy Wires for Electrical Conductors (B105) this year. Members are encouraged to submit votes, comments, and/or negatives on the ballot. Producers and users of the standard are encouraged to contact task group chairman Jim Michel (james.michel@copperalliance.us).
After being withdrawn due to ASTM International’s eight-year review regulation, efforts to reinstate a key specification are underway by the committee on analytical chemistry for metals, ores, and related materials (E01). A vote on the Test Method for Determination of Oxygen in Copper and Copper Alloys (E2575-08) took place in 2016, but negative votes need to be addressed before re-balloting. Interested parties should join the committee to participate.
The E01 committee is also working to create a test method for the analysis of copper and copper alloys by wavelength dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometry (WK51383). Volunteers interested in helping should contact Rory Montgomery (rmontgomery@reverecopper.com).
The committee is also working on two additional standards:
· Usage of Handheld LIBS for Identification and Analysis of Metals (WK56484), and
· Usage of Handheld XRF for Identification and Analysis of Metals (WK56485).
