ASTM International Committee E06 on Performance of Buildings has honored Larry D. Brown, senior technical director at Tectum Inc. in Newark, Ohio, with the E. George Stern Award of Excellence for his outstanding contributions to the development of international standards for the building community. 

A member of ASTM International for more than 25 years, Brown is the current chair of Committee E06 and its Subcommittee E06.11 on Horizontal and Vertical Structures/Structural Performance of Completed Structures.  E06 has recognized his work in the past with the Award of Appreciation on three separate occasions.  In addition to E06, he also serves on Committees C17 on Fiber-Reinforced Cement Products, E05 on Fire Standards and E33 on Building and Environmental Acoustics. 

A graduate of Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Brown joined the staff at Tectum as a chemist in 1979.  He was then promoted to director of quality assurance before assuming his current role in 1989.

In addition to ASTM International, Brown is a member of the International Code Council and the National Fire Protection Association.
