Yesterday, about 80 first grade students from Bridgeport Elementary School attended an ASTM-sponsored fieldtrip to the Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne, Pa. During the trip, students participated in activities that coincide with their current curriculum including catching tadpoles and learning about aquatic habitats.

In addition to Bridgeport, ASTM sponsors Riverbend fieldtrips for Conshohocken Elementary and Whitehall Elementary. ASTM also supports Conshohocken Elementary’s afterschool nature club program, coordinated by Riverbend staff, in which students learn about animals and the environment.

For 41 years, Riverbend has given children access to nature that they typically would not have had. The organization’s mission is to educate the younger generation on the importance of being stewards of the wilderness. Riverbend achieves this through hands-on activities, interactive teaching, and off-sight school visits.

Riverbend’s efforts align well with ASTM, which continues to develop standards related to sustainability and the environment. For more information on ASTM’s commitment to the environment, please visit www.astm.org/sn-environmental.
