The 2025 Washington Internship for Students of Engineering (WISE) program began with a welcome event in Washington, D.C., on June 2.
June 2 marked the beginning of the 2025 Washington Internship for Students of Engineering (WISE). The program began with a welcome and orientation event for this summer’s interns. Past interns, ASTM and IEEE staff members who help to run WISE, and other invited guests were included in the event. These guests included two past WISE interns: Madden Sciubba (WISE Class of 2017) and Ryan Alimento (Class of 2023).
The WISE program consists of engineering students who stay in Washington, D.C., and learn how government decisions are made on technological issues and how engineers can contribute to legislative/public policy decisions.
Leading the group this year as the faculty member-in-residence (FMR) is Joseph Sinicrope, nuclear technology and applications committee (E10) officer; COTCO chair; and Florida International University’s ASTM Student Chapter faculty advisor.
ASTM is sponsoring four WISE interns this summer: Ethan Andrews (Case Western Reserve University), Shrika Paramasivam (University of Texas – Austin), Andrew D. Avila (California Polytechnic State University), and Liam Cassidy (Pennsylvania
State University).
ASTM International is seeking nominations for its 2025 Professor of the Year award. The award winner will receive an honorarium of $2,000. The university of the award winner will also receive $2,000.
In 2009, ASTM launched the Year of the Professor campaign with the goal of having professors become more aware of teaching students about ASTM standards. That year, the ASTM International Professor of the Year Award was created to reward professors who expose students to standards and encourage the use of standards
The basis of the award will be:
The deadline for applications is Aug. 31. More information and nomination forms can be found on the Student Members page of the ASTM.org website.
