ASTM International’s buildings and construction subcommittee (E60.01) is developing a proposed standard that will aid in measuring energy efficiency and emissions associated with and/or produced in the operational use of residential buildings. The subcommittee is part of ASTM’s sustainability committee (E60).
“Residential homeowners and renters will benefit from standardized practices to measure home efficiency in the use of buildings," says ASTM member Shawn Hutchinson, USB. “This proposed standard will set a framework for data-driven pathways that lead to more affordability of upgrades.”
Hutchinson notes that the proposed standard will help people to understand why such upgrades are important.
“We want to take practical steps to guide people towards material benefits for their families and pocketbooks,” says Hutchinson. “The proposed standard will be useful for building product manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, the home services industry, utilities, and state and local governments.”
All interested parties are encouraged to join in the development of the proposed standard (WK94639).
ASTM welcomes participation in the development of its standards. Become a member at www.astm.org/JOIN.
