ASTM C518 utilizes the word similar in section 1.2 to ensure that calibration material used to calibrate the heat flow meter for a specific test is applicable to whatever material is being characterized in the test. The balloted change will eliminate the use of the word similar and provide constraints on relevant calibration variables to ensure calibration is valid for the material to be tested.
