Revision of F2194-22e1 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Bassinets and Cradles

Rationale

The Bassinets and Cradles Subcommittee received a request to consider changes to the standard to clarify what is to be considered a mattress in a product that has resilient padding material below the floor of the product. A similar request was made to the Non-Full-Size Crib and Play Yard Subcommittee who are also developing a ballot for changes similar to those being proposed for bassinets and cradles in this ballot. The Bassinets and Cradles Subcommittee was also asked to revise the Latching and Locking requirements for a bassinet to the base/stand to exclude sewn enclosures that could not be used as a bassinet when removed from the frame as the sewn enclosure would collapse down and was unusable as a bassinet when off the frame from the latching/locking requirements as the sewn enclosure did not present the entrapment hazard that the locking/latching requirement was intended to address. The subcommittee agreed with the request and a task group was established to develop the proposed ballot being presented here.
