New Test Methods for Locking Mechanisms for Locking Plate and Screw Systems

1. Scope

To evaluate and compare the mechanical properties of locking mechanisms used with locking plate and screw systems. Test methods will include static and fatigue cantilever bend, off-axis cantilever bend, multiple insertion and removal, and maximum stripping torque of the plate/screw interface.

Keywords

locking screw; locking plate; static; fatigue

Rationale

Locked plating has bee around now for several year. Current plate (F382) and screw (F543) standards to not address these unique methods used to evaluate a locking plate/screw construct. These methods can be used to evaluate the performance of locking plate/screw constructs and compare between different design. Users may include producers, test houses (labs), universities, or orthopeadic medical professionals

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
