ASTM WK85222

Revision of D1796-22 Standard Test Method for Water and Sediment in Fuel Oils by the Centrifuge Method (Laboratory Procedure)

Rationale

1) Section 1.1 in this ASTM method indicates that it is suitable for the range from 0% to 30% volume by means of the centrifuge procedure.
2)Table 3 expression of results indicates the data reporting from 0.00% to 0.25% by volume
3)Figure 2 of cone-shaped centrifuge tubes are marked from 0 ml level with 0.025 ml level increments.
4) All these points indicate that this method is good for the water and sediment level from 0%.
5) Section 6.2.2 indicates that the centrifuge tubes need to be volumetrically verified or gravimetrically certified the accuracy of the graduation mark in accordance with practice E542. Section 1.3 of E542 clearly indicates that it is not suitable for the capacities below 0.1 cm3, such as microglassware.
6)Therefore there is no indication to volumetrically verified or gravimetrically certified the appropriate tube below the volume of 0.1 ml even though the data can be reported below 0.1 ml.
