Revision of F2777-16 Standard Test Method for Evaluating Knee Bearing (Tibial Insert) Endurance and Deformation Under High Flexion

Rationale

As presented in the Nov. 2021 ASTM F04.22 meetings (see minutes), Christian Kaddick reviewed F2777 and suggested several changes including in clause 5.2.4 (to allow for medial loading), in clause 7.1 (to require initial bearing surface scanning of all implants), in clause 7.1 (to add the option of using a non-contact 3D measuring machine), in clause 7.1 (to modify the scanning point distance), in clause 7.7 (modification to the language regarding recording and justifying the contact points), in clause 7.9.2 (process to follow if rotation angle is smaller than 20 deg.), in clause 7.9.2 (regarding varus-valgus alignment), in clause 7.15 (require constraint testing of all samples). Based on his analysis, Christian recommended that the standard be revised accordingly. He proposed to draft language for subcommittee balloting prior to the next meeting (May 2022). Outlined below is the revised draft for Subcommittee ballot.
