New Guide for the Development of Building Specific Maintenance and Repair Protocols for Building Enclosure Systems

1. Scope
1.1Purpose The purpose of this guide is to provide guidance to building Owners, facility managers and maintenance and repair personnel in the development of appropriate routine periodic maintenance and repair procedures for building specific enclosure systems and components for new or existing buildings. 1.2Objectives Objectives of this guide are to 1) define good customary practice for routine maintenance and repair of building enclosure systems and components; 2) develop pragmatic and reasonable recommendations and expectations for responsible building owners to implement related to maintaining building enclosure systems; 3) assist in developing appropriate building specific baseline information with appropriate geographic, system and material specific considerations; 4) recommend appropriate protocols for owners, facility managers, repair and restoration professionals and system specific consultants; and 5) establish reasonable expectations for record keeping and communication. 1.3Safety Concerns - This Standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Use of this Standard may involve hazardous, operations, and equipment. Establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
