New Practice for Preparing Concrete Slabs to Receive Adhered (Bonded) Roofing Systems

1. Scope

1.1 This practice provides recommendations for the preparation of concrete surfaces prior to the application of an adhered (bonded) roofing system. 1.2 This practice does not cover the adequacy of the concrete slab to perform its structural requirements. 1.3 This practice is directed primarily toward installations adhered (bonded) roofing system on new concrete slabs but is also applicable for existing concrete slabs. 1.4 This practice does not supersede in any manner the roofing, adhesive, or primer manufacturers written instructions. Consult the individual manufacturer for specific recommendations. 1.5 This practice does not apply to applications involving insulating concrete. 1.6 This practice does not apply to applications involving lightweight cellular concrete. NOTE 1--It is recommended that a review of contract documents, concrete batch or delivery tickets or similar effort be performed to identify the concrete type. 1.7 This practice is not intended to offer guidelines for the selection of a suitable roofing system; the use of specific application techniques; or the design and installation of flashing, terminations, expansion joint details, etc. 1.8 Although mechanically fastened roof systems are not specifically intended to be included in the category of adhered (bonded) roofing systems, the procedures included in this practice may be useful for preparing concrete slabs to receive such roofing products. 1.9 Units--The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. 1.10 This standard does not purport to address all the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. See 5.1.1, 9.1.1, and 9.1.2 for specific warning statements. 1.11 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
