New Guide for The Development of Electron Ionization-Mass Spectral Libraries for the Analysis of Seized Drugs

1. Scope

1.1.This guide describes minimum criteria for the development of electron ionization- mass spectral libraries. 1.2.This standard cannot replace knowledge, skills, or abilities acquired through appropriate education, training, and experience (see Practice E2326, Education and Training) and is to be used in conjunction with sound professional judgement by individuals with such discipline-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Keywords

This guide describes minimum criteria for the development of electron ionization-:mass spectral libraries.:

Rationale

Rationale:The OSAC Subcommittee for Seized Drugs has developed a standard for the development of electron ionization-mass spectral libraries. There is currently no standardized guidance available to address building such specialized spectral collections or to address the variability of quality spectra produced even when nominal instrumental conditions are the same. This guide will assist forensic practitioners build more reliable specialized libraries for the analysis of seized drugs, to include criteria addressing the quality and source of the starting reference material, data collection protocol, mass spectral quality assessment and verification, and documentation procedures. This is the first time this standard has been balloted at the subcommittee level.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
