New Test Method for Conducting Atmospheric Pressure Carbon Steel Rotating Cylinder Electrode in 3.5 NaCl Solution Saturated with Carbon Dioxide

1. Scope

1.1.This test method covers a generally accepted procedure to conduct the carbon steel rotating cylinder electrode (RCE) experiment in 3.5% NaCl Solution Saturated with Carbon Dioxide at atmospheric pressure and room temperature

Keywords

RCE, rotating cylinder electrode, corrosion inhibitor evaluation

Rationale

Inhibitor suppliers require to publish the efficiency of their inhibitors in reference to a bench mark. Only then the merits of various corrosion inhibitors (with respect to reducing corrosion) can be evaluated on a common ground. It is important to evaluate the corrosion inhibitors in independent third-party laboratories. The ability and qualification of the third-party laboratories should be evaluated by making them to routinely carry out tests under standard operating conditions and by comparing their test results with Standard Test method results. This Standard Test Method is envisaged to address the above two requirements.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
