ASTM International’s fatigue and fracture committee (E08) held their annual M.R. Mitchell Student Presentation Forum in November as part of the 23rd ASTM/ESIS International Symposium on Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics. The event occurred at ASTM’s November committee week in Atlanta, GA.
Four students participated in the competition, which included preparing an abstract and giving a presentation on a fatigue and fracture topic.
The students who made presentations were:
Parker Green was chosen by the symposium chairs as the winner of the competition and received a certificate and a $200 cash prize. Green is a senior undergraduate student at the University of Tulsa, pursuing a double degree in mechanical engineering and mathematics with an aerospace engineering minor.
ANSI has announced the theme and other details about its 2025-2026 Student Paper Competition. The theme is: Imagine a world without rules or standards—what would happen?
ANSI notes in their announcement that standards are the unseen forces that keep our world running. Standards are behind-the-scenes rules that support many of our daily activities. Entrants will write papers that explore how standards may be “invisible” but still impact our daily lives.
Here are the requirements to enter the ANSI 2025-2026 Student Paper Competition:

ASTM International and IEEE are sponsoring organizations for the WISE program.
Each summer, the WISE societies select outstanding third or fourth year engineering/computer science students, or students in engineering/computer science graduate programs, from a nationwide pool of applicants. The students spend nine weeks living in Washington, D.C., during which they learn how government officials make decisions on complex technological issues, and how engineers can contribute to the legislative process and regulatory public policy decision-making.
Deadline for applications for the 2026 WISE program are due on Feb. 1, 2026. More information on the WISE program and how to apply for it can be found at the WISE website.
The ASTM International Graduate Scholarship is presented each year to as many as four high-potential graduate students, contingent upon merit and available funds. The scholarship rewards graduate students who have demonstrated high levels of interest or involvement with ASTM standards. During the year of the award (not necessarily at the time of application), the student must be accepted in a master’s or doctoral program from an accredited institution, or one that is recognized by the national responsible agency and shall possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education. All applicants must be proficient in the English language, and pursuing studies in an appropriate curriculum related to the scope of the activities of ASTM International. Finalists chosen for consideration must agree to be interviewed, either by teleconference or virtual meeting.
Each recipient of the ASTM International Graduate Scholarship shall receive $10,000 to be used for their educational expenses to include tuition, books, fees and materials. Deadline for application is April 30. For more information, contact Travis Murdock at tmurdock@astm.org.
