ASTM cosponsored a Standards in Trade workshop, "China Brownfields Remediation," in Chicago on September 1. Through its Standards in Trade program, the National Institute of Standards and Technology partnered with the International City/County Management Association and the U.S. China Standards and Conformity Assessment Cooperation Program to conduct the workshop.

Selected Chinese experts attended the program to learn the latest U.S. expertise on brownfields remediation. At the request of NIST, Tim Haley, a member of ASTM International Committee E50 on Environmental Assessment, Risk Management and Corrective Action, spoke on behalf of ASTM, describing the approach of ASTM to remediation. In addition, Kimberly Simms, manager, global cooperation, represented ASTM at the workshop.
