ASTM International has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Antigua and Barbuda Bureau of Standards. The MOU was signed in January by James Thomas, ASTM president, and Dianne Lalla-Rodrigues, director, ABBS.

Initiated in 2001, ASTM International's MOU program promotes communication between ASTM International and national standards bodies worldwide, fostering awareness of the standardization systems of all parties involved. More information about the MOU program can be found on the ASTM International website.

ABBS was established under the 1987 Standards Act to prepare and promulgate standards that are relevant to the economy of Antigua and Barbuda in order to provide a broad base of technical, advisory and monitoring services for retailers, manufacturers and service providers. Standards developed by ABBS include specifications for tires, prepackaged ice and packaged water, as well as a series of standards for the labeling of various commodities.

Along with other Caribbean national standards bodies, ABBS is a member of the CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality, which signed an MOU with ASTM in October 2010.
