ASTM WK99361
The current ASTM D130 rating system relies exclusively on human visual comparison against a physical standard. While effective, this method is inherently subjective and prone to variability based on: *Observer fatigue or color perception differences. *Inconsistencies in ambient laboratory lighting. *Difficulty in classifying "borderline" strips that fall between standard classifications. Revise ASTM D130 to include an objective digital imaging protocol and authorize the development of an expanded digital adjunct containing a broader spectrum of corrosion examples. Following completion of the test and the standard visual strip examination, an extended rating may be performed using digital picture analysis. This analysis shall be conducted using a calibrated imaging system under controlled lighting and viewing conditions. The procedure enables quantitative evaluation of the strip surface using colorimetric parameters (e.g., RGB, hue, saturation, intensity). Furthermore, this analysis will be supported by an expanded digital guide, which supplements the current ASTM Copper Strip Corrosion Standard adjunct with additional high-resolution examples and color variations to assist in the classification of complex or multi-toned strips.
