ASTM WK99319
This Work Item has been established to review and propose new test pressures used for the Unrestrained Thrust Test of ASTM C1277 compliant couplings. The ability of a No-hub coupling to pass the Unrestrained Thrust Test is related to the clamping force exerted by the clamps used on the coupling assembly and the hydrostatic force resulting from the input test pressure and the test pipe diameter. Certain size couplings use test pressures that would appear to be outliers compared to other size couplings, therefore making it more difficult to pass this specific test. I would like to have a collaborative committee effort to review and edit the standard as seen fit.
