New Practice for Use of a Helmholtz Coil and Fluxmeter to Measure Open Circuit Magnetization of Permanent Magnets.
1. Scope
This Practice will document standardized procedures for measuring open circuit magnetization of permanent magnets using Helmholtz coils and fluxmeters. It will specify general equipment requirements, address equipment calibration, detail a recommended test procedure, provide cautions about potential interferences, and address what accuracy and repeatability can be expected.
Keywords
magnetic moment; Magnet QC; NDT for magnets
Rationale
This method is commonly used for research and quality control in magnet manufacturing and magnet user industries. Test results from different laboratories often do not agree well. There are many potential configurations and interferences that can result in inaccurate measurements.
