Rationale

Section 14.5 of Specification C494/C494M requires revision to state explicitly that only one time-of-setting test is required for each batch of test concrete and for each batch of reference concrete. This can be inferred from Table 2, which shows the required number of specimens. This revision incorporates the feedback from the October 2023 ballot and makes it more clear in the procedure. Only the language in red font is being balloted. 14.5 Time of Setting – Test Method C403/C403M, except that the temperature of each of the ingredients of the concrete mixtures, just before mixing, and the temperature at which the time-of-setting specimens are stored during the test period shall be 23 OC + 2.0 OC [73.5 OF + 3.5OF]. Make one test specimen for each batch of reference concrete and one test specimen for each batch of test concrete. Compare the average of the results from the specimens of the test concrete with the average of the results from the specimens of the reference concrete.
