ASTM WK99021
This test method has been shown to correlate well to aggregate reactivity in the concrete prism test and in outdoor exposure blocks. When assessing preventive options, this test provides a much better correlation to field performance in outdoor exposure blocks than ASTM C1293. Further, assessing the efficacy of supplementary cementitious materials in this test method is significantly shorter (84 days) than the concrete prism test (2 years). While a similar method does exist as AASHTO T380, AASHTO and ASTM are exploring the possibility of producing duplicate standards in each organization. A pilot program is underway with one standard at each organization. This pilot program will conclude in approximately one year. Therefore, it is appropriate to start the balloting process within the ASTM C09.50 Subcommittee and an administrative negative will be entered to prevent this from going to C09 until the results of the pilot are confirmed. The interpretation of the results of this test method will be placed in ASTM C1778 and that ballot will occur at a later time since this is the first subcommittee ballot on this test method.
