New Test Method for the Determination of Selected Per and Polyfluorinated Alkyl Substances in Water by Solid Phase Extraction and Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (LCMS)
1. Scope
1.1. This is a solid phase extraction (SPE) liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/MS) method for the determination of selected per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) in water. Analytes are extracted using solid phase extraction (SPE), concentrated, qualitatively identified by retention time, and quantitated by comparing the response to a calibration curve.

Rationale
This method provides a lower cost and simpler analytical alternative to PFAS analysis compared to methods that rely on triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. The method is not as selective as methods, such as D8421, however, it is useful for researchers investigating the fate of PFAS during the water treatment process.
