Available comparative data indicate that spherical diffusers have greater variability, inconsistent design characteristics, and cleaning concerns compared with cylindrical diffusers. The data reviewed also showed differences between cylindrical and spherical diffuser results, including significant differences for certain samples and dynamic foam measurements. Removing spherical diffusers will improve apparatus consistency and support better interlaboratory repeatability.
