ASTM WK98894
This standard is being offered as a replacement of the cumbersome and difficult to replicate lap shear testing protocol found in D2564 (PVC) and D2235 (ABS). Currently F493 (CPVC) does not contain a lap shear test. The lap shear test was first utilized in the 1960's. Since that time, a less complicated, easier to produce, and more accurate test method was developed. This new method is called the Ring Shear Test and it has several advantages over the current lap shear test. 1. It uses actual pipe and fittings as opposed to extruded flat stock. 2. It is less complicated and much easier to follow than the lap shear test protocol. 3. The process of specimen preparation duplicates the procedure of making a solvent welded joint whereas the lap shear specimen preparation does not.
