Rationale

A ballot to update A536 to an English units only specification was issued in 2025. A negative vote was received as there was confusion regarding ASTM's policy to encourage dual English/metric units within all specifications. ASTM ruled that in special circumstances, the A04 Executive Committee can allow for a single unit specification especially where industry prefers one system over the other. At the November 2025 meeting, this issue was discussed within the A04 Executive Committee. The committee decided that A536 is used as an English unit-based standard so having metric conversions that are non-mandatory within it is confusing. The process to have this discussion included withdrawing the previous ballot so the decision on the question of English units only could be made. The purpose of this ballot is to confirm the content now that an English units only specification has been approved.
