Rationale

The equipment required to perform the Plasticity of Lime Putty Test to determine Emley Units is no longer commercially available. Results from this test are referenced in specifications for Hydrated Lime for Finishing or Masonry Purposes, Methods C206 and C207. Consequently, the committee is investigating alternative test methods and has selected a moisture meter for evaluation. Preliminary testing has shown promising results; however, additional research is needed to assess available equipment and supplies, followed by further evaluation to confirm consistent and reproducible results across laboratories.
