Rationale

Creating an ASTM standard for additional polyimide resins that do not currently have an ASTM standard. Nearly identical standard to ASTM D6456 (Finished Parts Made from Polyimide Resin). Proposed in November meeting that we should make a new standard for Co-polyimides rather than revise existing standard and this was agreed to and approved. This standard was presented to the meeting in March 2026 with no additional comments, so moving to submit the proposed standard to ballot. No changes were made to ASTM D6456 in its review, and all other items from D6456 have been copied to this standard other than the proposed changes/additions highlighted below. Major Changes in this standard from ASTM D6456: • Section 4: Classification—includes information for updated filler profiles of co-polyimide grades. • Section 6: Material—Description of the monomer backbones have been updated. This indicates the main difference between standard polyimide and co-polyimide materials. • Section 10: Number of Tests—Table 3 mechanical release properties updated for new grades/filler packages outlined in Section 4.
