Rationale

This standard is being reviewed in accordance with the ASTM five-year review requirement. Revisions were made to improve clarity and consistency of wording. Some procedures, such as sulfate and chloride by ISE, will be deleted and a reference to method E1787 will be added. Method E1787 was recently updated by committee D16 to current form-and-style. Method E1787 measures sulfate and is preferred by industry for labor and time savings. For membrane caustic materials, E1787 is preferred for chloride measurements. Only changes (shown in red) in the table below are balloted. A marked up copy of the method is included for reference purposes. Some editorial changes may be simply rationalized. The method will be renumbered by the editor which may not be reflected in the table below as these are editorial.
