New Specification for Structures for Light Sport Category Aircraft
1. Scope
This standard specifies minimum requirements for primary aircraft structures critical to the safety of flight and is applicable to aircraft capable of wing-borne flight, semi-thrust-borne flight, thrust-borne flight or autorotation-borne flight. Specifically, this version of the standard is focused on airplanes, helicopters, gyroplanes, gliders and powered lift types. Many of the requirements specified likely apply to other aircraft types as well, but the applicability to other types shall be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Rationale
This proposed standard would support the new proposed Part 22 and fall under the first category and is equivalent to airworthiness requirements found under Section 5, Structure in existing ASTM Standard F2245, 14 CFR 23 (prior to amendment 64), Part 25, Part 27 and Part 29.
