New Specification for " Standard Specification for SiDR Pressure Pipes, 18-in (457mm) to 138-in (3500mm), Fabricated by Helical Extrusion of Molten Stress-Rated High Density Polyethylene."
1. Scope
This specification covers pressure pipe made from stress-rated high-density polyethylene (HDPE) materials.
The pipes are manufactured by application of molten extruded material onto a rotating mandrel to form a monolithic mass. Removal of the mandrel provides the SiDR pipe.
Note : Although it is impossible to address all manufacturing details related to the fabrication of pipes in this specification, successful heat fusion bonding of HDPE is obtained through controlled application of sufficient heat to cause surface melting in combination with applied force over a period of time to cohesively fuse together the helically extruded solid-profile strip into a monolithic pipe.
Thie pressure pipe segments are intended to be jointed into a pipeline by Butt Fusion, and / or Bell & Spigot Joints, or Electrofusion Socket joints.
This specification includes thermoplastic pipe material designation codes for selection of appropriate stress-rated material, together with performance requirements for pipe and test methods for determining conformance with the requirements.
Minimum quality control measures are prescribed for manufacturers. See Annex A1 for quality control for pipe conforming to this specification.
There is a current market demand for economical production of short ( or long) pipelines of larger diameter solid wall pressure pipe up to 3500mm, made from stress-rated polyethylene compounds. The helical extrusion process answers that need for pressure rated pipe, and fabricated components, as is exemplified by helically extruded ASTM F3034 Pressure-Rated tubes machined into Pressure-Rated elbows, reducers, EF couplers, flange adapters, MJ Adapters, and other pressure-rated pipeline components, currently joined to axially extruded polyethylene pipe.
Users are large diameter polyethylene pipe owners for pressurized fluids conveyance.
