Rationale

A recent ballot, C15 (25-02) Item #3, proposed to change 'exposed' to 'finished' in C936 so that it would be consistent with C1782 (segmental slabs) and C1944 (pedestal-set slabs). That item had a persuasive negative that had some concern with this change. Upon further discussion, the task group is proposing to change all of the references in C936, C1782 and C1944 to simply 'face' with no modifier since the top and bottom faces of paving units have the same surface area and a modifier is not needed. This nomenclature is also consistent with the Canadian CSA A231 standard for paves and slabs. Similar items are being balloted to modify C936 and C1782 so that simply refer to 'face'.
