There is a need to address the gap between the lighter safety standards and UL 147 in the torch type product space. Micro torches, DIY, and Hobby torches are currently being sold in the US without a proper safety standard to certify to. Health Canada has also requested the help of ASTM Subcommittee F15.02 to develop a safety standard to address the type of torch lighters that are appearing in the marketplace and to help address safety concerns when products are not used as intended.
